Non-alcoholic beer is the king of all adult sophisticated non-alcoholic (NA) drinks, commanding 84 % of total category sales according to NIQ data — but even the king will sometimes deign to walk among the people. In this case, in the form of beer-tails.

Though they might seem low-brow, beer-tails are not at all uncommon in the world of classic cocktails. My favorite, for instance, is the Black Velvet, which works great in its non-alcoholic incarnation with Guinness 0 and a delicious sparkling non-alcoholic wine like Geisen 0% Sparkling Brut.

Yet, as the weather warms, it’s important to have a few more refreshing options in your recipe book. Here are my very favorites that range from the French version of the Shandy, Bieré Panaché, which is the quintessential warm weather beer-tail, to the Mexican savory staple, the Michelada.
